Jacob Mindel

Jacob Mindel joined Athlaw as an attorney in October 2023, after a successful clerkship program over the summers of 2021 and 2022 that demonstrated his passion for athletes’ rights and well-being. A testament to his legal prowess, hard work, and tireless advocacy, Jacob was named an Athlaw partner in February 2025.

As an attorney at Athlaw, Jacob focuses on NFL concussion settlement benefits, working directly with former players to secure the care and compensation they’ve earned through their careers. His naturally empathetic approach and deep understanding of sports culture allow him to build strong connections with clients while ensuring their needs are heard and addressed. Jacob approaches each case with the understanding that these outcomes directly impact his clients’ lives and families.

Prior to joining Athlaw, Jacob gained valuable insight into professional sports operations as a Basketball Operations Intern with the Charlotte Hornets, providing him with unique insights into professional sports operations. His experience also includes time at Kauffman Sports Management Group, which specialized in representing NBA executives, as well as NBA and NCAA basketball coaches, providing him with a unique perspective on the business of sports.

During his time at the University of Southern California’s Gould School of Law, Jacob took on significant leadership roles as President of the Sports Law Society, where he developed an innovative mentorship program connecting first-year law students with industry professionals. He also served as Vice President of both the Real Estate Law Society and the Student Bar Association, while also participating in the Interdisciplinary Law Journal.

Outside of law, Jacob is an accomplished athlete himself, having completed a full Ironman triathlon in 2022 and two half-Ironmans in 2022 and 2023. He holds a black belt in Taekwondo, which he credits for instilling the values of discipline, integrity, and respect that guide his professional practice. Jacob remains actively involved in his community, dedicating his weekends to volunteering at a German Shepherd Rescue.
